Angri is part ofAgro Nocerino - Sarnese, immediately close to theVesuvian area, and the municipalities that are part of the metropolitan city of Naples. Together with the Municipality of Scafati forms a single conurbation with the municipalities of the Neapolitan hinterland. The municipal territory goes from the base of Lattari mountains at the heart of Sarno Valley in one of the most fertile areas ofItaly.
Near the City of Nuceria - Alfaterna (known in the 21st century as Lower Nocera, Nocera Superiore, Angri and Saint Anthony the Abbot), the Battle of the Lattari Mountains, also known as the Battle of Vesuvius (since the first phase of the battle was fought near the volcano), which took place in October of 552 during gothic war. It was decisive for the defeat of the Goths and the affirmation ofEastern Roman Empire in Italy. The battle was fought between general, of theEastern Roman Empire, Narses and the last king of the Goths, Teia who lost it and with it his life. Finally, in a place known as Pizzauto (Pozzo dei Goti) it is said that there are the skeletons of some Gothic soldiers, thrown there by the victors, where the 15th century Grange of San Giacomo is located. Furthermore, in Angri, a street was named after the Goths in modern times.
